The government has declared Tuesday, the 11th of February 2020, a public holiday. This is in honour of the late president Daniel Arap Moi, who died on Monday this week. Addressing the press on the government’s preparedness for the state funeral of the former president, the Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua said President Uhuru Kenyatta will lead the nation in a memorial service for the late president, starting with a public viewing of his body on Saturday, the 8th of February. Moi’s body will lie in state for three days at parliament buildings.The memorial service, Kinyua said, will be led by an interdenominational service led by the African Inland Church, where Mzee Moi was a member.Meanwhile, Kenyans have been urged to sign condolence books that will be positioned at the office of the president, county government offices, all embassies, missions and high commissions abroad, . Kenyans have also been urged to honour the memory and legacy of the late retired president by planting trees and carrying out benevolent acts to the less fortunate, in fostering peace and unity.
