The government says multi-agency security teams have been deployed across the country to ensure peaceful religious observances.

Security agencies have heightened patrols around places of worship, major towns, transport hubs and public gathering areas to prevent any potential threats, according to Government Spokesperson Dr. Isaac Mwaura.

The spokesperson emphasized that intelligence units are actively monitoring any security risks and urged Kenyans to remain vigilant and cooperate with authorities and not to be worried of any attacks by the Al Shabaab Militia.
“Through intelligence-led operations sustained surveillance and decisive action, on 18 February 2026, officers from the Counter Terrorism Policing unit, the National Intelligence Service and partner agencies disrupted a network linked to the Al Shabaab terrorist group, arrested suspects and recovered weapons including AK-47 rifles, ammunition, grenades, explosives and logistical supplies intended to inflict mass casualties”, Dr Mwaura revealed.
As rainfall continues to be recorded in several counties across the country, the government has expressed concern over persistent drought conditions in parts of the Rift Valley region.
“The government acknowledges the severe drought that has gripped our nation, particularly in the Arid and Semi-Arid lands (ASAL) counties, following the near total failure of the October-December short rains season, one of the driest seasons recorded since 1981. The season delivered only 30-60% of average rainfall in most affected areas,” Dr. Mwaura stated, adding that this has resulted in acute food insecurity, water shortages, livestock losses and heightened malnutrition risks for more than 3million Kenyans.
Addressing the press, the government spokesman revealed that since December,2025, the government has spent over KES 6Billion on food and non-food distribution, livestock support and mitigation efforts across 23 ASAL counties.

“The government has scaled up relief food distribution, water trucking services and livestock support programmes in the affected areas. Coordination between national and county governments is ongoing to ensure that humanitarian assistance reaches the most vulnerable households”, Mwaura added.

At the same time, authorities are closely monitoring weather patterns to assess the impact of the ongoing rains in other regions.
