Medical interns have suspended their planned demo scheduled for today at the Ministry of Health headquarters at Afya House. In  a statement, the medics said that the suspension is a show of  goodwill following the dismissal of the President’s cabinet, that included the Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha. The medics said Nakhumicha’s tenure has been marred by delays in the internship placements of qualified doctors (medical officers, pharmacists and dentists), which has significantly impeded their career progression.

The medical interns also claimed that the former CS’s advice to the Executive Office of the President did not accurately reflect the dire situation they have faced for over 12 months and counting. They have however, said should the government fail to address their issues over the weekend, they  will  resume the protests on Monday next week. They have in the meantime said they will convene internally to deliberate on the next steps.
