The rebuilding of Christ Church Cathedral in Christchurch, New Zealand, may be paused following the government’s refusal to provide more money.

Christ Church Cathedral is a historic Anglican cathedral that was severely damaged by two major earthquakes in 2010 and 2011.

The cathedral, originally built in the 19th century, has been a central landmark in the city. Efforts to rebuild it have been ongoing for years, but progress has been slow due to financial challenges.

The head of the project, Mark Stewart, has said that without this support, work might have to stop.

Despite cost-cutting efforts, the project still faces a large financial shortfall.

A critical meeting next month could determine the fate of the iconic cathedral
