Veteran journalist Macharia Gaitho has been released after forceful arrest by police officers.
Gaitho was violently abducted with the National Police Service now saying the arrest was a case of mistaken identity as they had been targeting a man called Francis Gaitho.
According to his daughter Anita, the journalist had been captured at the Karen Police Station in Nairobi and forced into a car by men who introduced themselves as DCI officers carrying guns and handcuffs.
Anita had shared videos of a white Toyota Probox speeding out of the police station and another Subaru Forester which she said police used to block the car her family was driving.
The National Police Service said they had regretted the move, and have insisted that they do not target journalists in any way.
Addressing the presss outside the Karen police station, Gaitho said the incident was traumatic.
Gaitho said the police conduct was a set back to the democtatic gains made by the country.
