National men volleyball team, Wafalme Stars middle blocker Simion “Kisorai” Kipkorir has been named the LG/Sports Journalists Award of Kenya SJAK Sports Personality of the Month of May 2023.
Kipkorir was recognized for making history as the first Kenyan player to win the Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) men’s club championship.
The 25-year-old becomes the second volleyball player to receive the award this year, after women’s league MVP Pamela Adhiambo.
Kipkorir, a former General Service Unit (GSU) skipper joined the Tunisian giants on a one-year deal in September last year from Saudi Arabia’s Al Ibtisam, where he had been utilized as an opposite hitter.
Meanwhile Harambee Stars skipper Michael Olunga, who in the month of May scored five goals, four in their final match against Shamal, to help his side Al Duhail clinch the Qatar Star League (QSL) title.
Others making the nomination list were Ferdinand Omanyala for his exploits at the Kip Keino Classic. Omanyala clinched the award in August 2022 while Kipchoge was the Sports Personality of the Month for September 2022.
The awards which received renewed sponsorship from LG Electronics East Africa in May 2023, saw the January, February, March and April. awards go to World Cross country 10km champion Beatrice Chebet, Tokyo Marathon Champion Rosemary Wanjiru, London Marathon Champion Kelvin Kiptum and Kenya Pipeline’s Pamela Adhiambo.
