The High Court on Monday issued an order temporarily restraining the Communications Authority of Kenya from deploying the controversial Device Management System.

Justice John Mativo directed that the deployment of the system be suspended until the court hears and determines a suit filed by Activist Okiya Omtatah challenging its use.

The Authority has been accused of seeking to use the system as a spy tool but it has vehemently denied the allegations stating that its only intention is to identify counterfeit devices.

The matter will be heard on March 6.
